Statement of Purpose

I am currently a senior at Montserrat College of Art. This blog will be used to document my work through my senior thesis project.

Ever since I was young, I have collected and hoarded random objects. Today, I am still the same way, holding on to various things including bottle caps, string, bits of paper, and rocks. For me, keeping these items reminds me of a time that I found them. They have no real purpose other than being a reminder. The objects I keep hold the value of memory; this includes photographs, but also items that I choose to hold onto after an experience.
The significance we attach to memories can sometimes affect how we feel about our future, and how we look at the people around us. They shape how we go about doing things and dealing with situations. The value we attach to things and people through memories shape who we are as people; they create the things we are passionate about, the things we are terrified of, and the opinions we have of the world.
My objective is to create images that represent my memories, my sentiments, and the connections between these things. Several objects that I own are the only trace of certain people who have left my life. While they may not hold much monetary value they are the most important items I own. Using these items, my memory, and my dreams, I will create images using printmaking, photography, and sculpture.
